Local to Santa Monica, California, Patti McGee paved the way for female skateboarders as the “OG Betty”. Before McGee graced the cover of Life Magazine, skateboarding was a male dominated sport but with the help McGee’s international fame, female skateboarders had an idol to look up to. Check out a few ways Patti McGee helped change the skateboarding world.

  • McGee was the 1965 Woman’s first National Skateboard Champion in Santa Monica.
  • Her brother built her first skateboard and gave it to McGee as a gift.
  • Patti set the world record for the fastest woman on a skateboard at 47 mph during Dick Clark’s World Teen Fair 1964 held at the Orange County Fairgrounds.
  • McGee was also the first female professional skateboarder. She was paid by Hobie/Vita Pak to travel and demonstrate the Hobie skateboard on a national level.
  • In 2010, the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) held the “2nd Annual Skateboarding Hall of Fame Honors Six of the Most Influential Skateboarders of All Time.” Patti McGee was the first female to ever be inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame.
