Yoga movement extraordinaire. We are going to ride this out and answer these questions. Get your perspective. What are your mission and passion in this world?
Andrew: I feel that my mission and my passion in this world is to continue to bring forth light to each and every environment that I have the opportunity of touching. That means bringing forth presence in all that I do and really doing my best to be mindful of the incredible beings that are around me and seeing how I can be of service to my surroundings and spread light.
Nick: Define age.
Andrew: Aging is nothing but a number! I feel that age is the continuous wearing on the nature of life. As time passes, we begin to age simply because it is the wearing of that energy, the continuous breakdown or decay of that, which is the flesh, material, matter.
Nick: Would you say that there are ways to decrease that decay?
Andrew: Certainly. The best way to decrease that decay is to increase the amount of life you are putting into every moment whether that be eating healthy, sleeping well, really doing the best to be in tune with nature and finding those times within your life that you can be fully present in the moment and fully alive. The more that you are alive and giving forth that energy to each and every cell of you, the more those cells have a reason to live.
Nick: Beautiful. What is your perspective on aging?
Andrew: My perspective on aging is that it’s the natural occurrence that is part of not only humankind but also all life. Nothing is here forever. The beauty of life is that everything is changing, and through time, we can age gracefully with wisdom and bring forth that light, or we can hold on or be attached to our physical nature, which I feel is just a flesh body. This is just a flesh bag that we get to inhabit within this time period and when our flesh bag is done, our soul continues on. No one knows when was the first time that you came into existence because our soul is far timeless, far more resilient than that of the body. This material world is only 10% of what is actually there.
Nick: Beautiful. Light beings having a human experience. I love that. What three healthy habits do you practice to keep your body, mind, and soul young and vibrant?
Andrew: The three healthy practices that I practice to keep my mind, body, and spirit happy and timeless are first off yoga. I practice yoga every single day, which is not just the poses of yoga, but also the mindset of being conscious, compassionate, present, and loving to all beings. That also includes a deep resonance in meditation and really taking the time to tap into that timeless void that is stillness. That is finding the calm within the storm. Really allowing yourself to quiet and attune to what is the true life that flows through you every single day. The second practice would be healthy eating. More greens! More greens! Put those happy greens on your plate! Simply because if we look around, the things that keep us alive are green, whether they be trees, grass, and even for some people, money. Green is essential and when we eat more greens we bring nutrients into our body. Thus, upping the antioxidants and really taking the time to align with all of nature. I feel like it’s really important if we do more of that, then we can truly offset the timing of aging. And then third, be happy! That means go out, experience fun, experience joy, experience love. Tap into those opportunities that give you that space of effortless joy, smiling, being stoked on life. Tap into more of those times, and I feel that the richest and most abundant people I know are happy.
Nick: Absolutely. I love that. How does your message or methodology help people age gracefully?
Andrew: My methodology really brings forth a deeper resonance towards taking your time to truly align with your purpose, and when you do that, not only do you age gracefully but you live life to the fullest. When you have the opportunity to truly live in the present moment, to be in the space that allows you to grow, and truly tap into that essence of thriving, that’s when you’re happiest. That’s my goal; to really bring people back to the alignment of their truest power.
Nick: Beautiful. How does movement in the body help that process as well?
Andrew: Movement is key! Think of a bird. A bird has to fly to keep its life alive. A tree has to grow to stay alive. All nature wants is to continue to thrive, and we are part of nature. We are no different, so when we give ourselves the opportunity to move whether that be taking a bike ride in the morning or walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator or going to a yoga class every evening, that time you have to really tap into your body is giving you the opportunity to clean your temple, to realign your temple with the divine light that continues to shine to each and everything you do.
Nick: Beautiful. How can one stay young while getting older?
Andrew: I feel that the best way to stay young while getting older is to truly tap back into those times that give you happiness and joy, whether that be the little things, you know, waking up in the morning and going out drinking your fresh matcha, drinking your smoothie, or getting your bulletproof coffee. Whatever it is, tap into those little things that give you joy. And then also get to have the experience that brings you outside of your comfort. So that may be hopping into the ocean and taking a cold dip. Jumping into the cold plunge. So really taking the time to tap into those moments of being uncomfortable and taking a risk and truly allowing yourself to grow into that space of uncomfortability with happiness.
Nick: Love it. How do you feel your age relates to you and your community?
Andrew: I feel that my age now relates to my community and a space of maturity, bringing forth a deep awareness that…I’m 29 right now. I’m still not 30, but at the same time, I’m older than a lot of my peers who I play with, and I’m also younger than a lot of my peers who I have the opportunity to bring to more events and taking them to new experiences like acro yoga. I feel like I’m kind of in this middle stage where I’m bringing a lot of my “older friends” to fresh new experiences and bringing a lot of my “younger friends” to more wisdom, more depth, more discipline, and more dedication.
Nick: What advice would you give to someone as they get older?
Andrew: I would say that the best advice to give to anyone is to be present in every moment. Do your best to truly tap into the essence of the moment, to be present and to really tap into the joyful moments— those little moments when you can smile when you watch two dogs hanging out licking each other, when you watch a baby and a smile begins to emerge. Those little opportunities are prime moments that magic is available. When you tap into those moments of awe, that full “oh my goodness like wow”—that beauty of life, that’s when we truly begin to age gracefully.
