SÜPRMARKT is launching South Central’s very first vegan food festival this October.
On October 19th from 1-6 PM, thousands are expected to gather in Leimert Park for this experience. SÜPRFEST will feature delicious food from vegan vendors, health workshops, wellness experiences, and performances from leading voices in the LA area. SÜPRFEST is a proud part of the LA Department of Cultural Affairs; CURRENT series.
“LA has so many vegan options but that’s not the case in places like South Central,” says founder
Olympia Auset. “This gives this community a chance to try great food that’s good for them at prices they can afford, and meet the people dedicated to wellness and transformation in their community.” With South Central residents being 2-3 times as likely to die from preventable disease given limited health food access– the chance to eat healthy affordably is quite literally a lifesaver. SÜPRMARKT, which is most noted for their recent campaign to bring an organic grocery store to South Central’s food desert has been featured by Complex, LA Times, and the KCET Tastemade series “Broken Bread” hosted by Roy Choi for their work.
The event also provides a valuable chance for vegan upstarts to connect with a larger audience of new
customers. “It’s important for people of color in the inner city because we’re not taught to eat the right way,” says Lemel Durrah founder of Compton Vegan “We’re taught to eat whatever we see on tv.. not realizing the stuff we see on these commercials have long term effects. This event will bring healthy options to the community’s doorstep.”
Dr. Bronners, Howl Vegan Mac and Cheese, World Centric, and Dr. Hauschka’s are just some of the
brands that have stepped up to provide items for giveaways and giftbags.
Some key features of the event:
o The first 200 guests will receive free vegan meals and the rest will receive discounts so the
community can try vegan food for free!
o Thousands are expected to attend as the event is being held adjacent to Taste Of Soul which
attracts 50,000+ each year.
o Yoga, art therapy, soundbath practitioners and more will offer free workshops throughout the day,
powered by South LA Wellness.

o Tabitha Brown, Actress + Advocate

If you are new to our work, here is more about SÜPRMARKT. Since starting, SÜPRMARKT has served
up over 30,000 pounds of organic produce in South Central and beyond. SÜPRMARKT makes it easy
and affordable to eat well in food desserts by providing weekly produce pop-ups and delivery services.
South Central is home to more than 1.3 million residents and only approximately 60 grocery stores for its residents. Our work has been featured by the LA Times, Forbes, Ryan Seacrest, Tastemade, and more and our next step is to open a healthy retail location.
SÜPRMARKT is raising funds to open South Central’s first organic produce market at a historic space in
Nipsey Square. Nearly 1400 people including Issa Rae, Roy Choi, and KatvonD have backed the
#KeepSlausonFresh Indiegogo Campaign, raising 94k. SÜPRMARKT continues to raise funds to secure
and renovate Mr. Wisdom’s.
